3 Installation Configurations: Which Roof Tie Pro Option Is Right for Your Project?

One System, Every Connection

The hardest part of specifying a sheathing attachment system isn't choosing a product — it's choosing the right product for every different connection on the building. Roof hips, gable ends, top plates, bottom plates, rafter tails, and wall studs all present different geometries. A single bracket shape can't serve them all well.

That's why the Roof Tie Pro System isn't one bracket. It's three — the SFB-0007 SHORT, the SFB-0008 LONG, and the SFB-0009 STRAIGHT — each engineered for a specific set of connections, together covering every sheathing-to-framing joint on the roof and wall envelope. Understanding which bracket goes where is the key to a faster, stronger, more continuous installation.

SFB-0007 SHORT: The Stud and Rafter Straddle

The SHORT bracket is designed to straddle the rafter or stud, with the legs wrapped on the sides. The bracket is then securely fastened. The sheathing slides into the slot and is secured with 2 8D common ring shank nails, 2-1/4 inches long.

A center mark pointer indicates the center of the rafter or stud, making placement fast and accurate. The bracket is designed to be adjoining — see View D in the system schematic — so adjacent brackets tie together for continuous coverage.

Best for: Stud mount applications and roof rafters where a centered, side-wrapping connection is required.

SFB-0008 LONG: Top Plate, Bottom Plate, and Rafter Tails

The LONG bracket shares the straddle design but adds features that make it the connection point for the most critical load-path transitions in the building. A 1-inch pointer lines up with the top edge of the bottom plate, setting the sheathing 1/2 inch off the concrete — the standoff that prevents moisture wicking at the slab edge. The straight leg provides a positive stop for a 1-1/2-inch overlap on the top plate.

Used on wall construction, the LONG bracket provides the added benefit of a continuous metal connection between the top plate, the stud, and the bottom plate (see View B and View F). That continuity is exactly what the Florida Building Code and ASCE 7 drive toward — an uninterrupted load path from roof to foundation.

Best for: Bottom plate connections (View F), top plate connections (View B), and rafter tails (View C).

SFB-0009 STRAIGHT: Hip Rafters and Side Mounts

The STRAIGHT bracket is designed to mate with one side of the rafter with the jog sitting on top, or to mate with the side of the stud with the jog sitting against the face. The bracket is then securely fastened. The sheathing slides into the slot and is secured with 2 8D common ring shank nails, 2-1/4 inches long.

This single-side mating geometry makes the STRAIGHT bracket the solution for the connections that the straddle-style brackets can't reach — hip rafters and side mounts where the framing member is accessed from one face rather than straddled.

Best for: Hip rafters (View G) and side mount applications (View A, E, G).

A System, Not a Single Part

The reason three brackets matter more than one is continuity. Research from HUD and FEMA on hurricane damage consistently identifies the continuous load path — sheathing to framing to walls to foundation — as the single most important factor in structural survival. A roof with strong field connections but a weak top-plate tie-down is a roof that fails at the transition. The SFB System's three brackets ensure there is no transition without a matched, tested connection.

All three brackets share the same material specification: 18 GA. galvanized steel for corrosion resistance, compatible with 7/16-inch or 1/2-inch sheathing, and fastened with 8D common ring shank nails, 2-1/4 inches long, clinched after nailing. The entire system is Miami-Dade County approved and was tested by HETI, which concluded it is significantly stronger than nailing alone.

Installation Simplicity

Despite covering three distinct connection types, the system requires no special training or proprietary tooling. Contractors install the galvanized steel brackets in conjunction with their normal code nailing process. The sheathing slides into the bracket slot, the nails go in, and the connection is locked. The same crew, the same tools, a stronger roof.

Specify the Right Bracket for Every Connection

The SFB System's three brackets — SHORT, LONG, and STRAIGHT — cover every sheathing connection on the roof and wall envelope with one continuous, Miami-Dade approved, HETI-tested system. Explore the full system or request a sample kit to see all three brackets up close.
